I don't particularly like running. But I do like to hike, and this is really just a very fast hike through Yosemite.
When I heard about this race to raise funds for the Sierra Club in its mission to protect the wild places of the earth, it caught my attention. Last summer I left New York City and began living a more nomadic life with my partner and our dog. Since then we've had the opportunity to visit some incredible places – Santa Fe National Forest, White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks, Bandelier National Monument, Joshua Tree National Park, and everywhere in between.
And it just so happens that this race will be taking place on the first weekend after we arrive in Twain Harte, just a couple hours west of Yosemite. The course is fast and scenic: a peaceful 5 mile run through the trees, a fast 5 mile descent, and a beautiful 3 mile loop around Bass Lake. So I figured - why not make my first hike through Yosemite a half marathon?
I’m raising funds for the Sierra Club because they are one of the organizations most aligned with my personal goals around climate action. The funds you donate will enable the Sierra Club to do things like:
• Provide cleaner, cheaper, energy.
• Protect our land, water, and air – from our backyards to the other side of the globe.
• Save animals being threatened with extinction.
• Make the outdoors accessible for all of us.
I'm beginning with a goal of $1000, please help me cross the finish line by making a donation. And when you do, feel free to leave a message for me in the “Words of Encouragement” box. Gotta hike fast.
Thanks so much.
