100% of donations stay in Virginia and are used to promote climate solutions and secure environmental protections at every level of our political system.
Can I make a donation to a group or does it have to be one person?
You choose! Donations show support for one person, a group, or the 10 Wild Weekend campaign.
Where can I mail donation checks?
Team Sierra makes it easy to donate online, but checks are also accepted. All checks should be made payable to “Sierra Club Virginia Chapter” and mailed to:

Who should I ask for donations?
Anyone that cares about you, climate change and our environment is a good bet, but we know that personal networks represent the greatest potential for donations. Example email language, flyers, and other advertising materials are available to you at no cost.
Can I make a donation to a Team Sierra fundraising group?
Definitely. You can make a donation to a fundraiser on a group or you can make a general group donation.
How do I find my friend’s page or a group page?
Click on the magnifying glass in the navigation bar. Begin typing the first or last name or the name of the group. Relevant options will display as you type.
How quickly can I expect an online donation to post to a participant's fundraising account?
Any donation made online should post immediately. If an online donation does not post within 5 minutes, please
contact us.
What happens if I check the checkbox to "cover processing fees"?
If you check this checkbox, you will be charged the amount indicated next to the checkbox. This amount will also be visible to the Virginia Chapter. However, on the fundraising page, your intended - initial donation amount will be displayed.
Are donations tax-deductible?
Team Sierra is a program of the Sierra Club, a 501c4 organization, so contributions are not tax deductible. They support our many initiatives, including our effective, citizen-based advocacy and lobbying efforts.
For Canadian donations made online with a credit card, will the amount entered be in U.S. dollars?
Yes. For Canadian donations made online with a credit card, the amount entered in the online donation form will be in U.S. Dollars.
Do all donors who contribute online receive a receipt?
Every person that donates will receive a thank you email and receipt from Team Sierra.
Do I have to participate in a 10 Wild Weekend event or can I just donate?
We’d love for you to join an event, but donations are equally important in keeping the vital work of climate action and environmental justice alive. Simply donating and sharing with your friends and family goes a long way!
How do I accept the challenge to participate in 10 Wild Weekends?
It's as easy as 1,2,3! (1) Register at our Team Sierra homepage, (2) join a group that represents your interest (ex. Celebrating Youth Leadership in the Environment) , (3) set your fundraising goal, $1,000 recommended!
What does the solo fundraisers option mean?
Solo fundraisers participate in 10WW in their own way. This could be raising money for a 10K run/walk, kayaking or paddling down Virginia’s waterways, or anything that showcases all that Virginia’s environment has to offer. Your solo fundraiser does not have to be associated with any of our groups pages.
Simple. Select “join a group” when registering. You can see all groups by clicking “Find a Team.”
What is a good fundraising goal for my campaign?
All donations help, but those who raise $1,000 or more receive a State Parks Pass for the year, a Sierra Club membership, and a shout out on our social media platforms!
What if I want to do a personal event?
If you're doing your own event/activity (10k suggested), you can out details about your event on your personal page. You can utilize the email and social share feature to spread the word to folks about your event.

What can I do if a check is written out to me personally?
If a donation check has been written out to you personally, you may endorse the back of the check and mail it in with a completed donation form to Sierra Club Virginia.

Can I enter a check online?
You can't enter a check online. What you can do is enter a check as a pledge. This can be done in the fundraising section of your headquarters page. The status of the check will be pending until the check is received by Sierra Club.
Not all of my donors are showing up in the Honor Roll. Why?
As your donors make a contribution, they have the option of whether or not they want to appear in the Honor Roll.
Where can I find a list of the people who have donated to me?
Log in with your email and password to visit your headquarters page. Select ‘My Fundraising Report on the left side. You will then find a list of all of your donors as well as a list of all donors to your group .
How can I send a thank you email to my donors?
To easily send thank-you emails to donors, follow these steps:
- Log in to your fundraiser dashboard by clicking the "My HQ" link in the top right
- Click "My Fundraising Report" in the left sidebar
- Locate the donor/donation you'd like to thank, and click "Send Email" (If the donor didn't submit their email address, this option is unavailable.)
- Type the message in the pop-up window, and click "Send Email"
Why am I receiving emails telling me that I've received a donation?
You are receiving these emails because we would like to keep you updated on your fundraising efforts. If you wish to stop receiving these updates, please login to your headquarters and edit your account preferences.
Why does registration ask about my birthday?
All personal information entered is 100% confidential. We ask you for personal information just to verify who you are and ensure you are old enough to participate in 10WW.
What should I write on my personal page?
There is no universal approach, but it’s best to write about why you are participating in 10WW and why you care about climate action and environmental justice.
What’s the difference between my group/team page and my personal page?
Each Wild Weekend group celebrates an aspect of our natural world and the activists leading the environmental movement. Group pages display the progress of the whole fundraising community that you have chosen to join. Personal pages display individual fundraising progress and can be personalized with messages from you as well as shared on your social media.
Why do I have to sign a waiver?
Team sierra events are not Sierra Club outings. Everyone who registers as a fundraiser must sign a waiver that releases Sierra Club's liability for anything that may occur during team sierra related events.

What is my personal page URL?
A personal URL is a shortened link to your group or personal page that you can send to friends and family in emails. A personal URL will look like this https://www.teamsierra.org/virginia/paigewesselink.
Can a donor add a dedication message that appears in my fundraising honor roll?
When a donor makes a donation online, s/he can enter text to appear on the fundraising honor roll. This may be the donor's name, or it could be something like "From the whole Wolf family" or "In Memory of Aunt Cathy".
