A HEALTHY PLANET FOR ALL


Sierra Club's City Hike-A-Thon is a nationally powered and locally experienced event to raise money to protect our planet.

We believe that climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time. The Sierra Club is powered by millions of members and supporters across the country. We believe in the power of collective action and the power of grassroots fundraising.

From September 19 - October 9, 1,138 people hiked across the country, surpassing our goal of $75,000 and raising $84,424.95. Thank you to everyone who participated -- the funds raised help protect nature, fight for bold and immediate climate action, and tackle environmental injustice.

HOW IT WORKS

 

REGISTER


You already know that our planet — and future — is worth protecting, but now do something about it. Registration is $35 per person. You can join on your own or get a group together.

RAISE MONEY

Raising additional funds is optional, but encouraged! You'll make a bigger impact to fund local and national environmental initiatives. Plus, you can earn Zero Waste prizes.

PLAN YOUR HIKE

You can use AllTrails to find a great hike near you, or to create a new experience. We'll also send you a virtual scavenger hunt that you'll access through the Glide app!

HIKE!

From September 19-October 9, go for your City Hike! Do it all in one day or split it up over multiple days. It's flexible with your schedule!

SHARE YOUR HIKE

Post your route and photos of your hike on Instagram or Facebook. Use the hashtag #TeamSierraCityHike. We'll feature photos on Sierra Club's pages!


WHY FUNDRAISE WITH TEAM SIERRA?

 

We are witnessing a climate crisis from record-breaking temperatures to longer wildfire seasons and more severe hurricanes. And according to the UN, we only have 9 years to prevent irreversible damage to our future.

When you join Team Sierra, you are part of the nation's largest and most effective grassroots environmental organization, and you help fund the Sierra Club's work to protect the wildlife and wild places we love, advance climate solutions, make the outdoors accessible for all, and more.
 

Fundraising for the Sierra Club is easier than ever. Through emails, social media posts, and other creative ideas, and with the help of our fundraising coaches and community, people have raised on average $250. We're here to help!

EARN PRIZES


When you raise money by asking friends and family to join in this effort, you can opt in to eco-friendly prizes!



$150: Zero Waste T-Shirt 

We'll be following Zero Waste principles -- starting with our event T-shirt! We've partnered with East/West, a sustainable, gender inclusive shop in the USA. 

Each unique shirt is made from vintage, overstock, or deadstock materials that would have otherwise been sent to a landfill. 

Shirt colors will vary, and you may receive one that's orange, green, or natural colored.   

 



$250: Be Prepared Box - Available to first 50 people

You'll receive eco-friendly gifts like hand sanitizer by All Good, a hiking snack by ReGrained, and a Team Sierra water bottle and reusable bag. Items will be shipped after October 1.

$500: Ultimate Grand Prize - Available to first 10 people

Items include things like an A-Frame tent by The Get Out ($450 value, 3 available for prizes, check out color options), a $500 gift card to a Sierra Club outing (1 available prize) and a PRO membership to AllTrails (6 available for prizes). 


Shipping is US only and takes 10-14 business days. Quantities are limited, so prizes and sizes are on a first come, first served basis.
