If you're interested in nitty gritty training details and occasional videos of me doing stupid things, I have an Instagram account dedicated to tri training @ironmom.amanda
Hello friends and family!
I'm tackling a big challenge over the next several months - training for Ironman 70.3 Maine. I'm participating as part of Team Sierra, to raise funds for the Sierra Club. I'm not sure I would have committed to the training schedule and race on my own, but I'm excited to take it on in support of a cause that's important to me.
What the race entails:
- 1.2 mile ocean swim, immediately followed by:
- 56 mile bike ride, immediately followed by:
- 13.1 mile run
This race is about twice as long as the longest I've done to date (an Olympic distance triathlon last season). As of last week, I'm halfway through a 20- week training plan. It's hard work - I'm not going to lie. But it's exciting to see results - I'm swimming the fastest I ever have, and getting off the bike after two hours with some legs left to run on. Progress!
If you're looking for guidance regarding donation amounts - everything helps! But here are some ideas:
$7.03 = a dime per mile of the race
$20 = a dollar per week of training
$40 = a dollar per beer I'm skipping while training (approximate)
$70.30 = a dollar per mile
$120 = a dollar per training day (rest days don't count!)
I care about the places we live, and the funds you donate will enable the Sierra Club to do things like:
• Provide cleaner, cheaper, energy.
• Protect our land, water, and air – from our backyards to the other side of the globe.
• Save animals being threatened with extinction.
• Make the outdoors accessible for all of us.
FYI: In researching the Sierra Club Foundation, I found out that 2019 marks the 10th year running that the Sierra Club Foundation has earned a perfect, four-star rating from Charity Navigator.
If you'd like to learn more about their mission, you can check out sierraclub.org, or participate in their campaigns at addup.org!
Thanks so much!
