January 17 - February 18

The 1.5 Degree Challenge is a 5-week climate action fundraising challenge to complete a 15 minute activity every day.

Why 1.5 Degrees?

A 1.5 degrees Celsius (or a 2.7°F) rise in average global temperatures is the threshold for climate catastrophe. Right now we’re at 1.2, and we’re already seeing that is not safe.

There is a very narrow path to limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius -- and that path is rapidly closing. Our ability to make a rapid transition from fossil fuels to clean energy has never been more consequential. It is a crucial time for us to come together for the future health of our planet and generations to come.

Your $35 registration donation supports Sierra Club’s climate and environmental justice work.

How much does it cost?

A one-time registration donation of $25. You can also set up a fundraising page if you'd like to make a bigger impact.

What comes with my registration?

You'll receive an invitation to the 1.5 Challenge Facebook Group for community support, we'll send you a calendar where you can track and plan your activity, and more information on other things you can do to be proactive in the climate crisis.

Where do I do my 15 minutes of activity?

This is a virtual challenge, so it's up to you! We suggest going outside (and bundling up if where you live is cold!) or doing these in your home. As the pandemic continues to evolve, please make sure you follow CDC safety guidelines.

How do I track my activity minutes?

You can use your own tracking device, like Strava, a Fitbit, or any app of your choosing, and report back on our community Facebook group. You can keep track the old fashioned way with pen and paper. Or if you set-up a fundraising page, you'll have access to our endurance tracker.

We're excited to see the total number of minutes at the end of the Challenge!

How do I create a fundraising page?

You will be prompted after you register, or you can register and create a fundraising page here.

Where does the money go?

The money will support many of Sierra Club's initiatives like retiring coal plants, moving away from fossil fuels, and transitioning to clean energy, like solar and wind. Read more about the Sierra Club's mission.
