Update 2/17 10:30 AM ET: Climate Can't Wait Masks are Sold Out

What's the 1.5 Challenge?

It's a New Year challenge to commit to 1.5 miles (walk, jog, bike, swim, sashay, skip, skate) or a 15 minute workout of your choosing each day.

When you join, you'll get access to our Facebook community, a calendar to track and plan your activity, information on how you can be a part of the climate solution, and you'll be funding initiatives to protect our planet.

Why 1.5?

The UN's 2018 report stated that we must keep temperature increases under 1.5 degrees Celsius to avert the most devastating effects of the climate crisis.

At the time, experts said that we could reach this threshold by 2030, but now recent reports from the World Meteorological Organization suggest it could happen as early as 2024.

How much does it cost?

A one-time registration donation of $35. You can also set up a fundraising page if you'd like to make a bigger impact and earn eco-friendly gifts.

What comes with my registration?

You'll receive an invitation to the 1.5 Challenge Facebook Group for community support, we'll send you a calendar where you can track and plan your activity, and more information on other things you can do to be proactive in the climate crisis.

Where do I do my 1.5 miles or 15 minutes?

This is a virtual challenge, so it's up to you! We suggest going outside (and bundling up if where you live is cold!) or doing these in your home. Please follow CDC safety guidelines for COVID-19.

How do I track my miles or workouts?

You can use your own tracking device, like Strava, a Fitbit, or any app of your choosing, and report back on our community Facebook group. You can keep track the old fashioned way with pen and paper. Or if you set-up a fundraising page, you'll have access to our endurance tracker. This tracker has the ability to track minutes, so if you are opting to do mileage, make sure you keep track of your time! The endurance tracker can sync up with Strava.

We're excited to see the total number of minutes at the end of the Challenge!

How do I create a fundraising page?

You will be prompted after you register, or you can register and create a fundraising page here .

Where does the money go?

The money will support many of Sierra Club's initiatives like retiring  coal plants, moving away from fossil fuels, and transitioning to clean energy, like solar and wind. Read more about the Sierra Club's mission.
